Buying or Selling: Industrial Laser Sales

Dozens of companies approach LMG about industrial laser sales. We act as much more than a CO2 laser sales broker or a consultant. Unlike most brokers or consultants, because we know each laser system so well, we stay with you through each step of the laser sales process.

Laser Sales Examples

Because Laser Maintenance Group is known for dependable laser maintenance and training, people often come to us to get involved early in laser sales. Why might they sell their industrial laser? In most cases, they might need to get rid of an “old-fashioned” CO2 laser. Because of the tax breaks of Section 179, it makes sense to do so.

When they decide they need a newer, bigger, faster, more powerful industrial laser, they typically need more floor space in their factory. The easiest way to do that require removing their legacy laser system. Rather than enter into the confusing world of industrial laser sales, they call LMG.

LMG Knows and Is Known for Laser Sales

Because LMG is well-known in CO2 laser circles throughout the Southeast USA, we usually know if there are buyers for any type or size of laser system. In addition, we can inspect the laser, and know whether it is a high quality laser center. Because of our reputation, we will not help sell lasers we would not buy ourselves.

In fact, most of the laser systems we sell spend some time in our shop. We inspect them, gauge any repairs needed, buy them, bring them up to snuff, configure them, repair them as needed, then approach those folks we know who might want or need a dependable CO2 laser system.

Laser Sales –> Laser Buying

LMG is NOT a laser sales broker. We believe in standing by our laser sales. That means, after we have inspected it and sold it to you, we will train your people and we will maintain the entire laser system. Bottom line: We at LMG will stand behind the laser we sell you. If something goes wrong, our reputation is at stake, so we will make it right.

LMG’s Laser Sales Process

Laser sales does not have to be complicated. In fact, LMG makes our laser sales process a very simple one, starting with a few questions:

  • Do you really need a laser? LMG insists that, if you buy a laser from us:
    • it’s a laser money maker: The system needs to be profitable
    • the laser needs to be efficient
    • it need to match what you are doing
    • it needs to match the skill level of your operators
  • Can you do the same thing with another laser system, more inexpensively and more quickly and easily?
    • do you make a lit of prototypes or one-offs? A plasma machine or even a metal punch press might do the job and be much less expensive
  • What power do you need?
    • Why buy a 4000 watt laser center when a 2000 watt laser system will do what you need, and at a much lower cost?\

With LMG’s laser sales process, we find out the answers to these questions through simple question and answer conversations. Because we are not in the laser broker business, we do not care if you buy the laser center or not. In fact, we have consulted dozens of potential companies to NOT buy a particular laser system, because it didn’t really meet their needs.

Points of LMG Laser Sales

Many companies call us and excitedly tell about some laser system they are going to buy for a tremendous price. Because we do laser sales consulting, we listen. Then we ask them not only about their needs, and how the laser center fits with those needs. We also ask them about the entire laser center itself. We want them to consider all factors.

Laser Buying Questions

In laser sales / laser buying, we talk to the operators of the system being sold. Typically, the operators have no vested interest in selling the laser center. And because we have developed great relationships in the industrial laser circles, they are honest with us.

We ask the operators, flat out: “Do you like operating this laser center? If so, why? If not, why not?”

Laser system operators and maintenance people often tell us, honestly, insights like:

  • “This laser center is powerful and fast. I don’t know why we are selling it.”
  • “This laser? Take it to the scrap yard. It’s more complicated than it’s worth”
  • “If you know the quirks of this system, it does great work. But not everybody has the patience”
  • “This laser needs some work, but … “

LMG would probably buy three out of four of those industrial laser centers. Why? The scrap yard laser probably is not worth the effort. But the other lasers? They work great with proper maintenance and care. And LMG can fix them up and make them work well for you.

Inspecting an industrial laser system before the laser sales process even starts is only the first step. If LMG decides to buy it, we will repair it and bring it up to a good operational order.

Laser Sales Price Point

Which brings us to how LMG sets the price of an industrial CNC laser center. Some companies come to us and say “Oh, I can get this nice legacy CO2 laser system for $X. I think that’s a great deal.” On the surface, it may be a fantastic price. But LMG doesn’t do laser center sales that way.

What Does The Laser Really Cost?

With our expertise and inspection skills, we can look at a laser center and see how much it will cost to repair it, and to maintain it. We will tell you that base plus price. We will also note any upcoming maintenance, such as parts that need to be replaced or repaired within the next few years.

In other words, a laser system that sells for $X, we would tell you might be $X + $Y in repairs to make it operational + $Z in new parts in the next 2-3 years.

Laser Maintenance and Relationships, NOT Just Laser Sales

LMG is known for being honest and trustworthy. We don’t care about laser sales. We want you to be happy with your industrial CNC laser center, and to trust us enough to call upon us to maintain or repair your laser system. Our business is marked by what we do. We work hard to earn and keep that trust. Dozens of satisfied customers will tell you that about LMG.
